Design

Compared to their legacy incandescent or fluorescent network, data center administrators realize there are several benefits of using Citra’s LED lighting. Citra’s LED designs save electricity, reduce data center heat, reduce maintenance costs, lower temperatures and enhance health.

The introduction of sensors to LED lighting enables switching off or dimming lights when no one is in the room. When someone enters the room, lights will come on and turn off when there is no occupancy. This design and strategy for lighting will optimize efficiency. The dimming of fluorescent lamps and turning them on and off decreases output and life span. Controlled LED lighting can reduce server inlet temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees in a data centre. This alone will greatly reduce the costs of cooling. Another major benefit is that only every 10 years LED lights need to be changed which reduces maintenance costs and disruption, particularly in restricted aisles.

Energy

Existing fluorescents are a waste of energy, time and money in most data centres, especially with new developments in LED technologies making them redundant. A single, full Citra LED retrofit of existing fluorescent lighting is capable of raising the lighting energy consumption of a building by 40 to 65%. LEDs are dimmable at 100%, use less energy and emit less heat. Although lighting in a data center uses a small fraction of the electricity, it affects the costs of cooling. HVAC systems can use nearly half of the energy in data centers. The power used in a data center by cooling systems is second to the main equipment of the data center. Controls

In data centers, lighting can only be a small portion of energy usage, but it can have a huge effect on reducing the costs and resources used for one of the larger resources sinks inside such facilities-cooling. HVAC falls marginally behind appliances in terms of total energy usage within a typical data center, accounting for about half of energy use. Citra’s IoT strategy offers a structure for collecting and using this data to boost reliability and performance as well as allow for automation. Our system can also produce enormous amounts of data that need to be distributed, processed, and stored, allowing continuous monitoring to improve management. Data center hardware—whether it’s servers, control units or thermal management systems—continuously produce useful data on equipment status, control usage, temperature and other parameters that can be used to optimize system and facility level operations.

Citra’s IoT framework, specifically developed for the data center, is now available to allow for genuine, real-time, automated monitoring, access and control through IT and facility systems. Gateways aggregate data from different devices using various protocols to enable unified control of data centres.
